I don't know where I first saw them. It might've been Talk Soup, it might've been MTV.
All I know is that I was watching the right thing at the right time, and it screwed up my life forever.
Whatever it was, it introduced me to Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot from Mystery Science Theater 3000. Now, how can you not be a wiseass kid and think that this show is the most perfect idea ever to hit the screen? Just one problem. I was without Comedy Central.
When I moved up here in 92, this town was just getting cable. An exciting package of an astonishing 24(!) channels. One Saturday night at 3 in the morning I stumbled upon my first experience with the actual MST3K....well not really MST3K, the MST Hour, which channel 38 was syndicating. Sure, it would take two weeks to see an episode. But it was MST3K damn it! Not only that, but the second week I watched (The first week was the exciting thrilling conclusion to an ep) contained the one and only Mr. B. Natural! So, you know....it was good to get that one out of the way early.
Well, the bad news was that only lasted a couple months before 38 decided it's 3 in the morning on Saturday ratings would get a better boost from home shopping programs...probably that one where that fat dude yells at you about baseball cards.
It was about a year and a half before I'd encounter the Satellite of Love again. By this poin, our cable system had expanded to a mind boggling 31 channels. Including FX when they were still broadcasting out of my closet. It didn't matter though, because we were moving. And we were going to get Comedy Central (Of course, by that poin, Comedy Central was burning reruns, the show had been cancelled and was heading to the Sci Fi Channel...Which was oe of 31 exciting channels offered by our cable company......)
I don't remember what my first "proper" MST3K was. It could have been Skydivers. I remember that one the most. The best part about MST3K is as much as I love the show, there's still a ton of episodes I have never seen. That even includes some Sci Fi episodes. In fact, just this year I've seen 4 "new" eps.
So I guess what I'm saying with this blog post is SEND ME EPS OR I'LL PEE ON ALL YOUR HOUSEPLANTS! Whoa....where did that come from?
