Who says "Za"? Seriously...

"Za". for those of you who don't know, is a nickname for pizza that has seemingly popped up over night. I've been watching Tenacious D's Pick of Destiny and the word appears a couple times in the movie. We also have a commercial for...something or other, I don't really care, where a guy inquires about getting some "Za". In this commercial, no one seems to be interested in the guy. Whether or not it's because he has this innability to spare another second to pronounce the "Piz" syllable is unclear, but I have my theories.

I've heard "Za" said in a few other places. I don't really care to search for where I've heard it. All I know is that the word "Za" has to be the strangest word I've ever heard in my life. There's a memorable scene in Touch of Satan where Jody (Keep in mind I have not seen this ep of MST3K in years due to my VCR's refusal to not eat the tape it's on) shouts "Zah!" just to scare the bejezus out of the townsfolk. Maybe he was ordering a pizza? And those backwood simple good Christian folk were too unhip to understand what he was talking about. I know if I were to ever be in line to score with the devil, I'd want a snack afterward. It all makes sense now.

By the way? Pick of Destiny? Great movie. I laughed my ass off. There's definitly a few childish moments that made me roll my eyes (But still crack up), but it's awesome nonetheless. I guess really the only disappoining part is the fact that, if you got the cd, you know all the songs in the movie (Hell, the one song on the cd that isn't in the movie was performed in a deleted scene...geez!). It would've been nice to get other songs, but oh well. I guess to the move, that's a minor part (More the album's fault).

I have never heard that, Mickety. Za for pizza? That's just dumb. I refuse to jump on that particular bandwagon.

People who say "za" for pizza do it because they get confused every time someone says "peace out", because they think that person is saying "pizzout" and they're like, "what? what kind of food is that?", so they say "za" to remind themselves that it's "pizZA" and not "pizZOUT".

Ayep, that's my story and I'm sticking to it
